11:30 AM Vintage Roadside's Aquarama Symposium
Vintage Roadside, a company dedicated to preserving the history of mom and pop roadside businesses of the 1930s-1960s, has unearthed a time capsule of Aquarama and 1960s mermaid attraction memories through vintage photos, original 1964 home movies and other material, most of which has not been seen in more than 40 years, gathered from interviews with numerous Aquamaids and Aqualads and the son of Aquarama’s founders Marc Johl and will be revealed during their “Beautiful Girls that Live like Fish!: The Story of Aquarama, the World-Famous Mermaid Attraction” symposium at The Hukilau Tiki festival in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Aquarama was a testament of a vision that became a reality.
Aquatic performer Marina the Fire Eating Mermaid will be participating in a Q & A and a mermaid show-and-tell during the symposium.

Join Marina at The Handlery Pool and learn the basics of aquatic performance-including buoyancy control, how to move underwater more efficiently, and effective underwater facial expression and body positions for your film & photographic endeavors! At the end of the session, you can even pose for a souvenir photo with the MeduSirena herself! Eccentric and wild swimwear encouraged!

Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School is art class...without the class. Founded in New York City by artist/burlesque performer Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's now has branches in over 110 cities around the globe, from Los Angeles to Tokyo to Soa Paolo. Artists draw sassy burlesque girls, models, circus performers, roller derby chicks, and rippling hunks of man. Interspersed are silly drawing contests (Best left handed drawing? How did it work out? The same family still runs it today, much the same as then. Come hear and see the tale of how Florida took Tiki to the next level, and rediscover the oldest thriving original Tiki palace on earth!
